Poller series for traffic safety: Transport lock in Ossietzkystrasse from December 15th, 2023
The bicycle road Ossietzkystrasse in the Pankow district is provided with a Poller series as a passage lock to enforce the ban on driving for motor vehicles. The measure is necessary due to persistent non -observance of the ban and is intended to improve traffic safety and the pathway. Cycling and foot traffic as well as the passage for emergency vehicles and disposal remain possible.
The Ossietzkystrasse was declared a bicycle road in 2020 and is an important bicycle traffic routes in the Pankow district, with up to 600 cycling in the peak lesson. The establishment of the Poller series as a passage lock is intended to help to dissolve conflicts between cycling and car traffic and to ensure the safety of cyclists.
The so-called modal filter, i.e. the Poller series, is designed in such a way that cycling and foot traffic is still possible between the two streets. The passage for emergency vehicles and waste disposal company is also guaranteed. At the end of Ossietzkystrasse, a dead end is being built, for which a turning point is set up. The one -way streets in Majakowskiring are preserved, so that the road remains fully passable.
The measure is also intended to improve the path to school and the need for such a measure shows that the ban on driving for motor vehicles in Ossietzkystrasse bicycle road has so far not been sufficiently observed.
It remains to be seen whether the establishment of the Poller series actually helps to enforce the ban on driving for motor vehicles and to improve traffic safety in the bicycle road in the long term. So far, the measure is considered necessary by the Pankow district office and is expected to be implemented on Friday, December 15th, 2023.
