Gustave-Eiffel School: New sports construction and replacement plantings planned

Since November 2023, extensive renovation and renovation measures have been held on the grounds of the Gustave-Eiffel School in Berlin. The measures are carried out to create further school room in Pankow, as school places are urgently needed. The school is modernized to a 6-day integrated secondary school (ISS), and a new sports facility is added, which can be used by both the school and local associations. Planning also provides for a barrier building to enable an inclusive use.

As part of the renovation measures, the old sports hall was demolished to make room for a two -storey new building with a multi -purpose room and cafeteria. Unfortunately, around ten trees, mainly poplars, must be felled. The felling and sawing work is expected to be carried out in the 8th and 9th calendar week, i.e. between 19 and 29 February 2024. During this time, 52 and 54 in Pieskower Weg 52 and 54 as well as on the paths around the Gustave Effel School and the "movement" daycare center can occur. The district office therefore asks for understanding.

To replace the felled trees, the district office Pankow is planning replacement and compensation measures. In cooperation with the owner of a neighboring property, several suitable locations within the "Mühlenkiez" residential area have already been identified for replacement plantings. When selecting the new trees, locals, foliage species were taken into account, which are well adapted to the new location and can also cope with changing climatic conditions. Planting of maple, oak, linden and beech are planned in the coming years. Additional replacement plantings are also intended in the free facilities of the school hops after completion of the construction work.
