Grünen-Pankow: Julia Schneider prevails against yellow hair!

The Pankower Greens have a new face for the Bundestag election: Julia Schneider, the Vice-Group leader in the Berlin House of Representatives, was elected as a direct candidate with an overwhelming 74.3 percent of the votes. This happened at an election assembly that was not only of interest, but also by tension. The previous MP Stefan Gelbhaar received only 35 percent of the vote. This new election was necessary after several women had raised allegations of sexual harassment against yellow hair, with his resignation from the state list already signaled in December after these serious accusations. Gelbhaar himself rejected the allegations and filed a criminal complaint for defamation, such as rbb24 reported.

new election and party -internal tensions

The decision to election was made by the Greens district board, since the allegations against yellow hair have heavily burdened trust within the party. Numerous members were present at the election assembly, which had previously marked the largest meeting of the Pankow district association. "It is the elephant in the room," said co-district chairman Maren Bergschneider. In her speech, Julia Schneider emphasized that she was running to create a safe space for women within the party. "I want to win the mandate for all of Pankow" and focus on environmental and climate protection, said Schneider, who was already successful in the election as a House of Representatives, as from the reports of the Tagesspiegel emerged.

The repetition of the election was legally unproblematic, since the deadline for submitting voting proposals had not yet expired. Thus, the Greens in Pankow had the right to reorganize their candidacy without restrictions. Gelbhaar's handling of the allegations and the resulting tensions remains an issue among the members. "I ask you again for this trust," Gelbhaar tried to win over the district association, but the support seems to be desiring, while the focus is now on Schneider and the upcoming election.
