Memorial events on the 79th anniversary in Pankow: silent commemoration and wreath laying
On May 8, 2024, various memorial events take place in Pankow on the 79th anniversary of the liberation from fascism. District Mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch and the head of the Pankower district assembly, Dr. Oliver Jütting will commemorate the victims of the war and the National Socialist tyranny.
The events begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial of the Polish soldier in the Volkspark Friedrichshain, where there will be a joint meeting with the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district and representatives: inside the Polish embassy. A wreath is then laid down at 11:45 a.m. on the Memorstein Ostseeplatz / Rondell in Prenzlauer Berg. At 1:00 p.m. there is a silent commemoration at the Soviet Colonel in the Schönholzer Heide.
All interested parties are invited to commemorate them individually in these places during the day. It is important to maintain the memory of the victims of the war and tyranny and to actively work against any form of extremism and oppression.
It is of great importance not to forget the events of the Second World War and the horrors of National Socialism and to learn from history. Especially at a time when authoritarian tendencies and right -wing extremist ideologies are increasing again, it is important to work together for an open and democratic society. In the following table, further information on the memorial events on May 8, 2024 in Pankow is summarized:
