Change for the school community in Pankow: Inge-German-Kron-Gymnasium opened
The opening of the Inge German crown school in Wilhelmsruh, which emerges from a former substation, represents a significant progress for education in Berlin. The school community of the Inge-German crown school has found a new, adequate space for learning, which focuses on the needs of the students: inside.
a new learning location with history
The new location, Copenhagener Straße 87, 13158 Berlin, was set up in a former industrial monument that was built from 1925 to 1926. The conversion of this building means that architectural heritage and modern educational claims are connected. In recent years, the Pankow district has reacted to the unsustainable conditions of the former school locations, which has led to this important decision.
important support from politics
The ceremonial inauguration was accompanied by both the Senator of Education, Katharina Günther-Lüsch, and by the former ruling mayor, Franziska Giffey. Both politicians emphasized the importance of the new school location for the pupils and emphasized the values for which Inge Deutschkron has admitted - democracy, freedom and dignity of the individual. These values are particularly relevant in today's society and should be actively lived in schools.
committed school community
The transformation of the location was made possible by massive engagement of pupils: interior, parents and teachers. This community fought hard to create better conditions for teaching. The new premises are not only modern and functional, but also offer numerous offers such as specialist areas for music and natural sciences as well as a social space for exchange.
The way to renovate
The official approval for the use of the new location was granted after the assurance of funds for the renovation of the old location in Kniprodestrasse in 2022. For a long time the school community had suffered from the inadequate conditions, but now a new way of hope and possibilities is open. Construction for the new location is scheduled to start in the Berlin school building offensive in autumn 2024, with a budget of 53.65 million euros.
The look into the future
By creating modern learning conditions, the Inge German crown high school will also make a contribution to strengthening the school community. This new school, which is reminiscent of a survivor of the Holocaust through its naming, stands for an inclusive and diverse education. Such an approach promotes the identity of the students: inside and at the same time strengthens democratic values. The integration of sport and movement into the everyday life of the students: on the inside, evidence of holistic development testifies.
At a time when education focuses more than ever, the opening of the Inge German crown school is considered an important step towards a sustainable and future-oriented educational landscape in Berlin. This new institution could thus become a symbol of change in the city's school landscape.
