The Gallery in Berlin presents an exhibition with works by Oskar Manigk, the award winner of the Egmont Schaefer Prize for Drawing, from March 29 to May 26, 2024. The exhibition is in cooperation with the Berliner Kabinett e. V. organized and opened on March 28, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
Oskar Manigk, born in Berlin in 1934, is a versatile artist whose works go far beyond the drawing. Nevertheless, the drawing gesture occupies a central place in his work. His works are characterized by rhythmic structures, which often remember a step out of time. With humor and irony he brings the world theater experienced on his own stage of the paper.
Also since the 1960s, Oskar Manigk regularly exhibited individual and group exhibitions of his work. He has already received awards such as the Caspar David Friedrich Prize in 1993 and the cultural award of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2005. The artist lives and works in Ückeritz (Usedom) and Berlin.
The Egmont Schaefer Prize for Drawing is every two years by the Berliner Kabinett e. V. awarded. The prize recognizes innovative artistic positions that focus on the elementary of the drawing. The association was founded in 1998 from an exhibition series and manages the estate of the Berlin draftsman Egmont Schaefer. The price will be awarded for the 14th time this year and is not bound to formal conditions such as age, origin or training.
During the exhibition, an accompanying program is offered, including actions, films and mail art of Oskar Manigk from the 1970s and 80s, a film screening and a book presentation. Furthermore, an extensive mediation program with workshops for school classes and guided tours for seniors is offered. Admission to the exhibition and the accompanying program is free.
The Galerie parterre is located in Danziger Straße 101, house 103, in 10405 Berlin. The opening times are Tuesday to Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The regular opening times apply on public holidays.
