Ostalbkreis as the promoted team of the year: record in recycled paper!
In the Federal Environment Ministry in Berlin, the Ostalb district was recognized on Tuesday by Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke as the "promoted team of the year". Josef Strobel, deputy department for administration and digitization, accepted the coveted award. The district has increased the share of recycled paper with the blue angel in its administration by an impressive 93.56 percentage points to 94.93 percent within a year. In this way, he leads the Pro Recycling Paper (IPR) initiative in the 2024 paper atlas competition, in which 91 counties took part this year.
The positive development not only brings ecological benefits, but also leads to significant resource savings: Compared to fresh fiber paper, the Ostalb district saves over 1.4 million liters of water and more than 318,000 kilowatt hours of energy. These savings could cover the annual electricity requirement of 90 three-person households. "The Ostalbkreis shows how environmentally friendly paper procurement achieves measurable effects," praised Marc Gebauer from IPR. The Federal Prize has a signaling effect and is intended to encourage other municipalities to act. Further details can be found on www.schwaebische.de .
