Public transport strikes in Lower Saxony: ver.di demands higher wages for employees
an outcry in the train stations and bus depots in Germany! The United Service Union Ver.di raises the alarm and calls for unprecedented warning strikes in local public transport and railway goods! But what is behind this dramatic step?
In the heated tariff round to the railway collective agreement (ETV), the insufficient offer of the employers brings the matter over to over cooking. Women and men who work for around 5,500 employees in the federal states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Rhineland-Palatinate are fully packed. From omnibus companies to rail traffic to freight railways - everyone is affected!
dangerous lack of personnel and high fluctuation!
"Whether workshop, driving service or engineers-there is a red in all professions in traffic!", Explains Ver.di negotiator Andreas Schackert vehemently. The industry collapse is emerging: lack of staff, high sick leave and a worrying fluctuation - until right and competitive wages come on the table, the situation remains tense.
The union is serious: a drastic increase in wage by 350 euros is on the wish list, and that with a term of only twelve months! But the employers do not seem to be willing to do justice.
The dissatisfactory employer offer!
The employers' association AGVDE was surprisingly lame in the first round of negotiations and only offered an increase of 3 percent from April 1, 2025. A joke in the face of the tense location! In addition, an inflation compensation border of 1,300 euros is only partially offered - no more than a measly 600 euros are up for debate.
The ver.di tariff commission is now full and sets a strong sign! From the coming week, she announces the first warning strikes in various companies to increase the pressure and show the employers that the barrel threatens to overflow. Next stop: second trial date on November 11, 2024!
A clear announcement to all those affected: Ver.di will announce the exact strikes. It remains to be seen how long the employers can hold on to their inadequate offers!
