Public service broadcasting: less transmitter, more responsibility?

Public service broadcasting: less transmitter, more responsibility?

Germany - a country of media variety! But now comes the big clear blow! The prime ministers have decided to drastically reduce the number of public law radio stations. What does that mean for our beloved transmitter and for us, the fee payers?

According to the latest decision, it says: less is more! Of 70 radio stations, only the number 53 remains! And the television savings also have to believe in it. A shock for everyone who rely on a variety of programs! Now the scissors are set and the transmitters have to save - and obviously at the expense of diversity.

a necessary step ... or not?

The idea? Worth defending! It is high time that the public law deals responsibly with the money of the citizens! After all, we pay 18.36 euros every month in the hope that our money will be used sensibly. But the excitement is great! What does this step really bring? Do the transmitters get better? Probably not. The prime ministers who have made this decision have prevailed. An exemption with the ax. But do we have to worry about the indispensability of these transmitters? Not!

Each ARD institution may continue to operate several radio stations. Culture friends, children and adolescents - you don't have to be bang! There are still programs especially for you, only in a somewhat reduced form. But how long does it stay?

The reality of the viewers

A big problem remains unadrivity! The preferences of the audience have changed fundamentally! Who still looks at the mediocre German TV series when we are spoiled with the almost endless selection of high-quality content on Netflix? Media change is real and demands new solutions!

It is time for us to make ourselves indispensable again as journalists! This affects both public service broadcasting and private broadcasters. We have to seriously deal with the right offer in order to meet the needs of the audience. Otherwise the remaining variety will soon be a thing of the past.
