Conversion Hermannstrasse for cycling: Working up to Werbellinstrasse planned
Hermannstrasse in Berlin is currently being rebuilt for cycling to improve the wheel infrastructure to Werbellinstrasse. The work has already started on Leinestrasse and is expected to continue until autumn. The first section between Glasower Straße and Thomassstraße was completed in 2022. The district councilor for urban development, environment and transport, Jochen Biedermann, emphasizes the importance of Hermannstrasse as an important north-south connection for cycling.
The conversion includes structural measures to separate cycling from car traffic and increase safety for all road users. This is realized by flexpollers, guidelines and guidelines that delimit the wheel lane from the road. In particularly traffic -intensive areas, the bicycle traces are marked in red to attract additional attention.
For the creation of further parking options, additional bicycle brackets are built. New middle islands should also make it easier to cross Hermannstrasse at certain points. However, due to the renovation, some parking spaces have to be omitted. Delivery zones are intended as compensation, which apply on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can park in the delivery zones overnight and on weekends.
The construction and marking work will be carried out in short areas, starting on Leinestraße and then south. The gap between Jonassstraße and Leinestraße has so far not been implemented due to a lengthy construction site and will be carried out at a later date.
Overall, the renovation aims to make cycling in Berlin safer and more attractive. The exact plans for the conversion can be viewed online.
