Restricted opening times of the Berlin libraries in Neukölln due to lack of staff
Since October 16, 2023, the opening times of the Helene Nathan library in the Neukölln Arcades, the Margarete-Kubicka library in Britz-Süd and the Gertrud Haß library in Rudow have been restricted for the time being. This is done due to a permanent lack of personnel in the Neukölln City Library. This is intended to secure the offers for reading and language support for daycare centers and school classes in the morning as well as the event work of all locations. This condition is expected to stop by the end of the year.
Despite the restricted opening times, the libraries' event and program work continues at the same level. This also includes all previous offers for language and reading promotion as well as media education. The opening times at the most visitor's times in the early to medium afternoon remain unchanged at all locations, as well as the Saturday opening of the Helene Nathan library.
The Helene-Nathan library is located in the Neukölln Arcades at Karl-Marx-Straße 66.
The changed opening times of the Helene Nathan library are as follows: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Margarete-Kubicka library in Britz-Süd is located at Gutschmidtstraße 33. The opening times of this library were also adjusted. It is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, closed on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays. The Gertrud-Junge library is located at BAT-YAM-Platz 1 and has unchanged opening hours. The Gertrud Haß Library in Rudow also has changed opening times. According to a report by www.berlin.de, the opening times of some libraries in Neukölln are temporarily restricted in order to compensate for lack of staff and to secure the offers for reading and language support as well as events in the morning. The affected libraries are the Helene Nathan library, Margarete-Kubicka library and Gertrud Haß library. The Gertrud-Junge library retains its regular opening times.
