New hippo resident: Bouli moves into the Berlin Zoo!

In the Berlin zoo there are exciting news: A new resident has already moved in who is already enthusiastic about visitors! Bouli, a 12-year-old hippo bull, weighs a proud 4.5 tons and causes excitement in the Hippo-Bay. Born in France, he previously lived in the Czech Republic and Belgium and now brings a breath of fresh air to the Berlin animal world. Especially the zookeepers follow up with excitement how Bouli is in his new home, where he will meet his new conspecifics Kathi, Nala and Nicole, such as Berlin Live reported.

unique encounters and hopes for offspring

A special attention applies to Nala, the 13-year-old hippo lady, which was chosen as a genetically suitable partner for Bouli. Florian Sicks, curator of the zoo, expressed hope that the two animals would form a good team and would soon be able to take care of offspring. "But ultimately the animals decide," he emphasizes. Bouli's move to the Berlin Zoo takes place as part of the European Conservation Breeding Program (EEP), which aims to create a genetically healthy animal population, since hippos in the wild are the endangered species, such as Zoo Berlin

The curiosity of the visitors is great, because Bouli is not only an impressive sight, but could also change life in the Berlin Zoo sustainably. It remains to be seen whether there will be reproduction and the zoo visitors will soon be able to welcome a small hippo. But one thing is certain: the Hippo-Bay now has an exciting new resident that the zookeepers and visitors are kept in mind.
