New road traffic regulations: municipalities on the way to environmentally friendly mobility

The mobility turn in Germany is in the starting blocks! A brand new legal opinion opens up exciting opportunities to integrate climate protection into road traffic. From tomorrow the revolutionary road traffic regulations come into force and it brings a breath of fresh air to the rigid regulations! At a time when environmental and health protection is becoming increasingly important, says the German Environmental Aid (DUH): Now it is important to pull the tax around!

be ready for radical changes! The municipalities are now allowed to create bus traces and safe foot and bike paths for accidents without annoying waiting times. So far, the rule has been: proof of the hazard before you can act! But with this reform it is over! The DUH urges cities and municipalities to take measures immediately - for safe and sustainable mobility.

The new road traffic regulations and its opportunities

"The German road traffic regulations remain the most restrictive worldwide!" explains Jürgen Resch, the federal manager of the DUH. But now municipalities can act independently and in the interests of their citizens without having to wait for "blood to flow". Resch demands that the new possibilities will be used promptly: "Let us transform car and parking traces into bicycle and sidewalks, introduce speed 30 on main roads and create bus traces- it's high time!"

The legal opinion confirms that the clarification of jurisdiction is in the hands of the municipalities. Remo Klinger from the law firm Geulen & Klinger, which has created the report, is convinced: "The StVO finally arrives in modern times! Many communities are up to their throat and they need freedom to create their transport systems creatively." A rethink is required to finally act sustainably and future -oriented.

climate protection now at the top of the agenda

For the first time, climate protection is recognized as a legitimate reason for changes in road traffic in the new law! In the past, long procedures often had to be accepted, but that is a thing of the past. The reform not only strengthens climate protection, but also health protection and the ordered urban development. Municipalities now have the power to quickly set up residents' parking zones - without any waiting goals!

The positive aspects of this reform are examined more precisely in a timely online event by the DUH for interested municipalities. Questions can be sent to trafficwende@duh.de to learn more about the new legal scope.

Background: This comprehensive legal opinion is part of the "Pop-up mobility turning point" program, which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. An ambitious project that heralds a traffic revolution in our cities!
