New research strategy for MV: But where is the local expertise?

New research strategy for MV: But where is the local expertise?

Schwerin, Deutschland - The state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has set up a new commission to develop a sustainable research strategy. Under the direction of the renowned philology professor Peter Strohschneider from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, the members of the Commission came together in Berlin last week for their first meeting. Eight experts were appointed, including primate researcher Julia Fischer and marine geologist Michael Schulz.

The decision to select experts from outside only ensures considerable criticism. The CDU opposition criticizes that the expertise of scientists from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is not included. Katy Hoffmeister, the science spokeswoman for the CDU parliamentary group, expressed concerns and wishes more local participation in strategy development. Science Minister Bettina Martin emphasizes the value of an independent external analysis of the research site and is convinced that the selected experts are ideally suited to take a new look at the Situation. Further details on this debate are here to be found.
