New advice center for children and adolescents in foster families: support in Schöneberg
New advisory program for children and adolescents in Berlin
In Berlin there is a new start-up and advice center for children and adolescents who live in foster families, homes and living groups. Workers' welfare (AWO) opened this independent facility in Schöneberg to offer young people in difficult situations. So far, those affected only had the opportunity to contact their respective carriers and youth welfare offices.
youth and family senator Katharina Günther-Lüsch (CDU) emphasized the importance of this new advice center. For the first time in Berlin there is an independent contact point that enables children and young people to find help without getting into a conflict of loyalty. This strengthens child protection and the rights of young people.
The AWO state manager Oliver Bürgel emphasized that the interests of children and young people will be the focus. Paths should be found together with them to make the advice optimally accessible.
The Senate Department under Katharina Günther-Lüsch has provided the AWO state association Berlin funds of 400,000 euros. Currently, 1,952 children live in foster families and 6,389 children and adolescents in inpatient facilities in Berlin.
