Neo-Nazi march in Friedrichshain: Broad protest prevents march!

Berlin-Friedrichshain, Deutschland - On March 22, 2025, a neo-Nazi march took place in Berlin-Friedrichshain, which was confronted with a broad protest movement of more than 2000 counter-demonstrators. The deployment, organized by the "bourgeois alliance for Germany", began at 1 p.m. at the southern Ostkreuz with the motto: "For law and order. Against left -wing extremism and politically motivated violence". The announced route of the march included a route of over seven kilometers through the district, which was to lead, among other things, via Frankfurter Allee and Rigaer Straße, but ultimately did not take place as planned, since the demonstration was canceled prematurely. Berlin against Nazis reports from the multitude of counterprots that took place from 12 noon to counter the right-wing extremist event.

The number of participants on the neo -Nazis participants was estimated at around 850, while the organizers spoke of 1200 participants. In contrast, the police, which was used with around 1,500 forces, recorded over 15 reported counter -protests, many of which were associated with blockages. The aggressive mood led to wrangling, in the course of which the police had to use pepper spray, which led to more than 40 arrests, of which over 30 of them in the right warehouse. Various violations were found among the neo-Nazis, including showing unconstitutional symbols and ignoring the masking ban. Welt explained that the demonstration was ultimately ended prematurely after about four hours.

preparations and tensions

In the run -up to the march, there were several preliminary meetings for the neo -Nazis, including Alexanderplatz train station. In addition, a concert with the singer of the right -wing extremist band "Category C" should take place on the Ostkreuz. However, this was canceled prematurely as a result of the previous police measures and demonstrations. Already with earlier neo-Nazi marches, as on December 14, 2024 with 60 participants and in February 2025 with around 150, tensions and resistance were created by left-wing groups that also showed their protest on this day. Tagesschau reports of the aggressive arguments that had already been shown in the previous demos.

With a clear mobilization under the motto "Fascists away from the memorial", the monument also gathered for the murdered Jews of Europe around two hours after the departure demonstrator began. These and other protest actions delivered a clear sign against the right -wing extremist movement, which continued to try to find a platform in the Friedrichshain district. The police warned in various places and recommended that the participants not alone to arrive and plan detours, since further unexpected arguments were to be expected.

Overall, the event of March 22, 2025 shows that the company in Berlin is still polarized and the arguments between right -wing extremist organizations and its opponents increase in intensity. The upcoming protests and the repressive reaction of the police illustrate the persistent problem of right -wing extremism in Germany.
