context of the exhibitions
The project "Decolonial- what remains?!", which was opened on November 14, 2024, addresses Berlin's entanglement in global enslavement and colonial history. The exhibition was created through the cooperation with the City Museum Berlin and highlights three essential places in Berlin-Mitte: the Museum Nikolaikirche, the (post) colonial area of the "African Quarter" and the historical place of the Berlin Africa conference in Wilhelmstrasse 92. To include perspectives to promote a sustainable culture of memory. Decolonial reminds of the need not to forget this story.
The two exhibitions in the Nikolaikirche Museum offer in -depth insights. "Colonial ghosts - resistant ghosts" addresses the interweaving between colonialism, religion and historiography. Artists like Theresa Weber and Percy Nii Nortey deal with historical places such as the Berlin Africa conference. The second exhibition "enrolled" focuses on eight short biographies and links the history of colonialism with the Nikolaikirche and the Stadtmuseum Berlin.
