New high school in Mitte: School in Turmstrasse built for 128 students
The district councilor for school and Sport, Benjamin Fritz, informed in a press release about the founding of a 13th high school in Berlin-Moabit at the start of the school year 2024/2025. With this decision, the district reacts to the needs of 128 pupils who have not yet been offered a school place in Mitte. The new high school is founded at the location of the Berlin College and is expected to continue growing in the coming years. Due to the common use of the local infrastructure, the future students have a well -equipped learning environment.
In order to save enough rooms for the newly founded high school, the Berlin-Kolleg will be relocated to the college location in Tempelhof-Schöneberg in the school year 2025/2026. This enables the Schöneberg college to expand the competencies of the Berlin college. The Berlin-Kolleg has recorded a decline in the number of collegiates in recent years, which is why the relocation appears necessary against the background of the qualitative reorganization of the second educational path. The cooperation between the districts of Mitte, Tempelhof-Schöneberg and the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family helps to secure a strong inner-city location of the second educational path.
A table with possible information about the two schools could look like this:
| | 13. High school (from 2024) | Berlin-Kolleg (Tempelhof-Schöneberg from 2025) |
| ———————— | ——————- | ———————————
| Location | Turmstraße 75, Berlin-Moabit | Tempelhof-Schöneberg |
| Number of students (start) | 128 | - |
| Equipment | Good | - |
| Number of collegiates | - | 326 (current) |
| Change of collegiates | - | Agency by 53% in the past 10 years |
The creation of the new high school and the relocation of the Berlin college are important steps to expand the school places in Mitte and strengthen the quality of the education system in Berlin. The district office Mitte and the Senate Department are satisfied with the quick implementation of these measures and emphasize the cooperation between the parties involved.
