Rent in Berlin: 84-year-old trial could soon be decided
The case of Manfred Moslehner in court mobilized a large number of people who support the 84-year-old man, lovingly referred to by his neighbors as "men". The district court of Wedding was full of people who wanted to pursue the trial against Muslehner. The situation arose when an investor acquired the settlement in Berlin-Reinickendorf and pushed for modernization, which led to a double termination of the rental agreement and a claim against men.
Moslehner, who, as a former machine lock, receives only a small pension, rejected the investor's modernization plans because he could not bear the associated higher rents. Although he was obliged to do urgently needed work in his house, he defended himself against it for fear of losing his home. The judge, who heads the evacuation procedure, showed understanding and questioned whether there was still a way to reach an agreement instead of making a tough judgment.
The sale of the settlement in 2010 led to the alienation of many long-time residents who protested the investor's modernization and sales plans. Moslehner, who has lived in his house since his birth and is faced with the situation that his home is at stake, expressed his unwillingness to leave the house, as this would mean the end. The court is preparing to make a judgment in the next week, while a spark has hope that a member of the Bundestag of the Green Political Spectrum could convey and is therefore in sight.
