Improvement of the processing time of death certificates: a success for district councilor Juliane Witt

improvement of the processing of death certificates through cooperation

The registry office has successfully reduced the long traffic jam in processing death certificates thanks to the support of other districts. This was an important step to improve the service for the citizens.

The reasons for the traffic jam were diverse, including the reduced working hours due to the corona mode. This resulted in the processing time in December last year was four months. However, by using two colleagues from other district offices and a colleague in the central registry office 1 in Berlin, the processing time could be reduced to one to three weeks, depending on the status.

A key factor was the lack of registrars on site, since only they can issue the death certificates. For this reason, the documents have been transported to the other districts within the past two months, which has now been completed.

The employees have to endure a lot of resentment during this time, but are relieved that they can now signal the funeral home and the citizens that the traffic jam is remedied and complaints are processed.

District City Councilor Juliane Witt is satisfied with the progress, but emphasizes that it is important to keep the status achieved. This includes the quick attitude of qualified employees, their training and promotion. Citizens rightly expect high quality in all areas of the services.
