Digital memory work in the sign of diversity and respect: #everynamecounts
On 26. September 2024 A remarkable campaign will take place in Berlin, which not only awakens the memory of the victims of National Socialism, but also promotes the commitment of civil society. The volunteer agency Marzahn-Hellersdorf, in cooperation with the Arolsen Archives, invites you to the digital participation campaign #everynamecounts. This initiative offers all interested parties the opportunity to actively participate in the digitization of historical documents from home.
The #EverynameCounts initiative was launched to ensure a complete documentation of the fates of victims of National Socialism. So far, more than 6 million documents have been processed, with the entire archive comprising an impressive collection of around 30 million historical records. This not only underlines the urgency of the project, but also the tireless efforts of many volunteers who are committed to prescribing historical knowledge for future generations.
The event is carried out online and includes an introduction to the project before the participants begin digitization. Such access to history is not only an individual, but also a collective responsibility that affects all citizens. "It is an opportunity to actively deal with the past and contribute to the culture of remembrance," emphasizes Constanze Paust, head of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf volunteer agency.
This digital action is an important part of the Berlin volunteer days that focus on promoting civic engagement in society. They show how important active participation in such projects is and how much the community can benefit from the collaboration. Every year the Berlin volunteer days offer numerous options for citizens to work for the common good and to promote diversity, respect and democracy.

Participation in the digitization of historical documents is not only a contribution to the processing of the Nazi era, but also a symbolic gesture of respect for the victims and an important step towards a cosmopolitan and tolerant society.
