Lieferando starts Germany-wide Pride Guide for LGBTQIA+-friendly restaurants

New queer-friendly restaurant guide from Lieferando to support the LGBTQIA+community

The LGBTQIA+community can look forward to a new initiative from Lieferando: The delivery service has introduced the Germany-wide “Lieferando Pride Guide”, which highlights queer and queer-friendly restaurants all over Germany. With this project, Lieferando not only wants to set a sign of inclusion, but also the LGBTQIA+community and all supporters offer a secure and inclusive selection of meal options.

The idea for this LGBTQIA+-friendly restaurant guide was created from a survey that Lieferando commissioned. This survey should uncover the discrimination against queer people in the catering trade. The results are worrying: 21% of those surveyed feel uncomfortable due to their sexual orientation or gender identity in restaurants. 15% have already experienced discrimination, whereby in 53% of cases the restaurant personnel themselves was responsible for discrimination. To tackle and improve this problem, Liefando has launched the Lieferando Pride Guide.

The Lieferando Pride Guide is a continuously growing project that highlights queer-managed restaurants and restaurants with an active LGBTQIA+-friendly communication. The participating restaurants are actively committed to inclusion and security and offer a friendly atmosphere for all guests. As a start, the Pride Guide comprises around 80 restaurants in 40 cities. However, Lieferando plans to continuously expand the guide and to take new queer -friendly restaurants all over Germany. For the launch of the guides, Lieferando organized an event at which various voices came out of the community and celebrated the diversity, self-determination, equality and pride of the LGBTQIA+community.

The survey also raised numbers to discriminate against queer people in restaurants. The results for transgender people are particularly alarming: 71% felt uncomfortable due to their sexual orientation or gender identity and 57.9% were treated worse. The Lieferando Pride Guide would like to highlight these uncertain rooms in restaurants and give restaurant partners tips on how to behave more queer -friendly. Obvious queer friendliness increases the feeling of security of 45.5% of all respondents and even 61.5% of the transpers.

Some restaurants that are already actively committed to the LGBTQIA+community are Tom’s sausage in Berlin, Snack Jack in Neckarbischofsheim, Hellas Grill Eilbek in Hamburg and Rocket Rice MilkyChreis in Cologne. These restaurants were selected for their LGBTQIA+-friendly attitude and active support.
