New Mobility Council in Lichtenberg: A step towards accessibility and inclusive planning
In the Berlin district of Lichtenberg, a new mobility council is launched, which will be responsible for future traffic planning and mobility in the district. This Council is not only a reaction to the growing importance of sustainable mobility concepts, but also a crucial step in the direction of inclusive and disabled -friendly urban planning.
The mobility council will act as a advisory body and combines the interests of all road users - from pedestrians to cyclists to people with restricted mobility. Selected representatives of associations, groups and interested citizens are invited to actively work in the design of this council. District City Councilor Filiz Küllüoğlu (Bündnis 90/The Greens) emphasizes the urgency and commitment of the district office for barrier -free mobility: "Protection and a smooth transportation of the particularly vulnerable road users in public space are particularly important to us." This is also evident in the objective of the mobility council, which in particular wants to focus on the perspectives of people with disabilities and mobility aids.
The first meeting of the mobility council takes place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the town hall Lichtenberg, Möllendorffstraße 6, 10367 Berlin. The choice of this time is important because it gives the citizens the opportunity to actively participate in the discussions about the future design of public space and to bring in their ideas and needs.
This step falls along with increasing awareness of the challenges that many citizens experience in the public transport system. By including a variety of votes, the mobility council wants to help promote solutions that promote the mobility and safety of everyone. The creation of this council is not just a local measure, but also represents a broader trend that is emerging in many cities in Germany - calling for more inclusive in urban planning.
