Deutsche Bahn is planning at the end of the B.L.O. Ateliers: Cultural Loss in Berlin-Lichtenberg
Deutsche Bahn Infrago plans not to extend the rental agreement for the B.L.O. studios at Kaskelstraße 55, 10318 Berlin, which should end on July 31, 2024. On Friday, April 26, 2024, a use of use for several buildings was also pronounced. The sponsoring association Lockkunst e.V., which has been using the site for over 20 years, sees an uncertain future for this established art and cultural location.
The planned closure and use of use of the B.L.O. studios meets great lack of understanding and outrage. District Mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) emphasized that with the disappearance of the studios, an important cultural center in Lichtenberg would be lost. He sees the previous negotiations between the district, the Senate and the Deutsche Bahn. The solution that emerged to maintain the studios no longer seems to apply. The district demands active efforts to get a solution satisfactory for all sides.
The B.L.O. studios have a long history and are an important part of the creative scene in Berlin. The site once served as a company station and was converted into a place for art and culture by artists and creatives. Artists have worked and exhibited here for over two decades, and it has become a popular meeting place for the local community.
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and whether it will be possible to find a solution that ensures the preservation of the B.L.O. studios. In the meantime, the future of this important cultural place remains uncertain.
