Lebanon in need: UNICEF and WFP implement important aid measures
War, chaos and a heated climate: The Lebanon is on the edge of the abyss!
Beirut/Berlin, October 15, 2024. In a dramatic situation that shakes the world, the eyes of the aid organizations are directed towards Lebanon! UNICEF and the WFP raise the alarm: the humanitarian catastrophe is in full swing! During their shocking three -day visit to Lebanon, the delegated witnesses of the misery and the despair that people have to suffer in this war -plagued region became.
The two high -ranking representatives, Ted Chaiban von Unicef and Carl Skau from WFP, reported a desperate picture: "This war that nobody wanted is now causing devastating damage." The other uncertain future is burdened by millions. The conflict has the region under control - the screams of the civilian population halls through the streets and fear is written in the face.
in the eye of the storm: asked for emergency aid!
In the middle of this emotional roller coaster, around 1.2 million people suffer from catastrophic conditions. The emergency shelters are overcrowded, and more than 190,000 displaced persons are looking for protection in over 1,000 institutions. Families fight for bare survival, while others are looking for refuge with friends or relatives. Meanwhile, the Masnaa-Checkpoint ensures an unchecked influx of refugees from Syria-the humanitarian situation is becoming increasingly critical!
"Every family we meet has a story. Stories of loss and pain," says Chaiban moves. Children in particular are affected: many have lost their relatives, they could no longer attend schools and face an uncertain future.
Unicef and the WFP work tirelessly hand in hand to quickly provide vital help. In strategic places, they provide more than 200,000 people with food and cash every day. At the same time, UNICEF provides basic medical care, water, hygiences and even psychosocial support for the traumatized children in emergency accommodation.
The voices from hell: security and protection!
"We are experiencing an indescribable solidarity among people. But the needs increase - the social structure is extremely stressed!" Skau reports. The voices of the desperate families are loud: they feel unsafe, even in the supposed security of emergency accommodation. The concern for the children eats on the nerves - protection is essential!
"Humanitarian international law must be preserved!", The two deputies appealed vividly. The civilian population must be protected, schools and hospitals must be ensured. None of the children involved in the fighting should be exposed to the danger! The humanitarian aid corridors must be kept open for life -saving help.
"The international community is urgently asked! If the needs continue to increase, we urgently need additional means to expand the help!" The aid organizations urge it. An immediate ceasefire is necessary to survive in order to finally give the people in need of protection in Lebanon a chance of a safe life.
An appeal to the world: help us hear the screams of the needy and ensures that the auxiliary routes remain open! The Lebanon is in great need - the time is pushing!
