Looking for creative minds: Berlin starts competition for urban projects 2025!

Berlin, Deutschland - The competition "Mittendin Berlin! Projects in Berlin Centers 2025/26" today looked for its official starting shot under the motto "Centers Reloaded - Creative Heads for Berlin!" given. According to berlin.de , a jury was selected from a total of 47 submitted contributions at the end of May 2025 that nominated six projects for the second phase.

These nominated projects each receive up to 5,000 euros in order to initiate the first implementation steps and to get professional advice. The participants have time to further qualify their suggestions by November 2025. In December 2025, the jury will select up to three contributions for implementation in 2026.

Various projects to strengthen the trade

The main goal of the competition is to create attractive and versatile places to strengthen trade and to promote encounters and participation. The nominated projects are characterized by creative approaches, cooperations and clear visions. The projects include:

• foyer (center) : A participatory open-air cinema on Hansaplatz, which is supposed to promote conversations and encounters.
• My Schönhauser Allee IG (Pankow) : Initiatives to improve the quality of stay during the new building of Schönhauser-Allee-Brücke.
• Genoa e.V. (Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg) : Use of Berlin summer baths in the autumn and winter months with common good.
• Kreisler e.V. (Neukölln) : Transformation of the Rotraut judge Platz and a shop area in a multifunctional, common good.
• ZIK GmbH (Steglitz-Zehlendorf) : Development of a shop area in the Steglitzer roundabout for participation, creativity and encounter.
• Cooperative southern Friedrichstadt (center) : Event series on Mehringplatz to revitalize public space.

For the completion of the projects, the competition receives support from the state of Berlin, the IHK Berlin and other partners. In addition, the competition is part of the federal program "National Projects of Urban Surround", which has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Living, Urban Development and Building since 2014.
