According to the Welt newspaper on Sunday, the alliance extends over several federal states and authorities and is growing steadily. Around 100 police officers are already participating in it. It is also about explaining the work of the police to the police officers of the last generation. So there is an exchange in both directions.

Furthermore, events and seminars with activists of the last generation have already taken place at various police universities throughout Germany. The Berlin University of Economics and Law confirmed this on request.

The Berlin judiciary also shows less confrontational behavior towards the activists. After a review by the new Senator for Justice Felor Badenberg, they were certified that they would still not be a criminal association. This examination was initiated on the basis of an investigation into Brandenburg, where there is a suspicion of the formation of a criminal association against the last generation. The background of these investigations include attacks on systems from the PCK Schwedt refinery, which have been committed by activists since April 2022. The Potsdam District Court also saw an initial suspicion for a criminal association in the climate group.

The Berlin judicial administration, however, emphasized that the decision from Brandenburg could only be transferred to a limited extent to the situation in Berlin.

The step of the Senator for Justice Badenberg was primarily welcomed by legal politicians of the Greens and the left. However, it was also criticized that the extra examination initiated by Senator Badenberg unnecessarily contributed to criminalizing the last generation. Sebastian Schlüsselburg, legal policy spokesman for the left -wing parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives, expressed this criticism.

So it seems that both the climate activists of the last generation as well as the police and the judiciary in Berlin are looking for dialogue and understanding for one another after months of dispute and confrontation.
