Neighborhood cinema blossoms: Festival LA46 delights with record numbers!

The “LA46” film festival took place this year in the Thalia cinemas in Lankwitz and boasted an impressive variety of cinematic experiences. Festival director Patrick Meyer reported on an emotional and successful event that attracted numerous spectators in October 2025. Compared to the premiere last year, the number of spectators has even doubled, which impressively underlines the success of the festival.

A total of 27 films from or about the southwest of Berlin took part in the competition. Both professional and amateur filmmakers were invited to present their works to a wide audience. The main prize for “Best Film” went to “RAAM – Race Across America” by Alex Hüfner. The film follows the extreme athlete Claus-Henning Schulke and was not only one of the highlights of the festival, but also won the audience award.

A new benchmark for neighborhood cinema

The event set new standards for neighborhood cinema with record-breaking participation and a variety of topics covered. Festival operator Peter Wagner was positive after the event and was optimistic about the next edition, which will take place from October 9th to 11th, 2026. The motto is: “Forget Hollywood – show the neighbors!”

Film enthusiasts already have the opportunity to view films for the upcoming festival edition on the website la46.de to submit. A best-of film from this year's festival has also been released online, making it easier to access the event's best moments.

Mission and inspiration from San Diego

The San Diego Film Foundation pursues similar goals to the “LA46” festival by promoting new perspectives through film and providing a platform for deep social issues. The Foundation is dedicated to the mission of using film as a transformative experience to strengthen human connections. It is registered as a nonprofit organization and annually organizes the San Diego International Film Festival and other events that address issues such as environmental protection and social justice.

In a world increasingly characterized by diversity and different perspectives, the San Diego Film Foundation creates an important dialogue. Years of work and commitment have helped develop awareness of global issues and promote empathy. Such initiatives not only contribute to film culture, but also strengthen the community and unite people.
