Purchasing crisis: Berlin far, Spree-Neisse surprised!
The purchasing power in Berlin and most Brandenburg counties remains worryingly low. According to a current study by the employer -related institute of the German Economy (IW) in Cologne, Berlin occupies the ungrateful place 373 of 401 Germany -wide regions in terms of purchasing power. The nominal average income of 23,952 euros is burdened by high living costs, which leads to a real purchasing power of only 22,511 euros, as reported [RBB24]. The district of Potsdam ends up in 380 with a similar fate, while Frankfurt (Oder) with the ninth -lowest nominal income of 20,985 euros is number 381 of the rankings.
especially in focus: Spree-Neisse
The only exception is the Spree-Neisse district, which comes to 184 with a real income of 26,502 euros. Here the nominal average income is only 24,249 euros, but the cost of living is at an acceptable level compared to the purchasing power. The national average of real incomes is 25,790 euros, which further reinforces the dilemma in busy cities such as Berlin and Potsdam, as [Spiegel] noted. In the overall rating, Starnberg in Bavaria leads with a purchasing power of 35,392 euros, which shows massive differences that are not only due to income, but also to the cost of living.Although the study results are alarming, they also show that the living area has the decisive influence on the quality of life and relative purchasing power. As soon as the housing costs are deducted, the differences between different regions of Germany are less drastic, but for the citizens of the Berlin area, the repression from the city center and rising rents remains an urgent problem.
