Fight-battle tank deal: Bundeswehr ordered 35 new Leopard 2 tanks
Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to order additional Leopard 2 fighter tanks to support the planned stationing of the Bundeswehr brigade in Lithuania. According to reports from the newspaper "Die Welt", 35 other fighting tanks of the most modern rescue center A8 are to be ordered, with only 18 pieces for taxes been ordered to Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense has informed the Bundestag's budget committee about this planned order, but without revealing further details and pointing out the confidentiality of arms transactions. CDU budget politician Ingo Gädechens described the order of the fighting tanks as a correct step, but the financing of the project was still unclear and the templates could be delayed.
The delivery time for a Leopard 2 is about two years, which the planned brigade in Lithuania is officially going into service by 2025 and should be ready for use by 2027 at the latest. This brigade is intended to secure the NATO-East flank and ward off a possible threat from Russian attacks.
