Jusos tip resigns early: Sinem Tasan-Funke and Peter Maaß are looking for new impulses

Article content:

The previous chairman of Berlin's Jusos, Sinem Tasan-Funke and Peter Maass, have resigned their offices after three years. Although the regular election is only scheduled for next year, you would like to hand over your positions to your successors at the Juso state conference in September. The decision results from the fact that the work for the two was not only exciting and enriching, but also exhausting. Tasan-Funke, who works full-time as a speaker in a Federal Ministry, describes her experiences on Twitter as "a regular challenge of personal limits". She also emphasizes that the Jusos need new impulses. Your co-chair Maaß is a teacher at a Berlin high school.

In their time at the head of the Jusos, Tasan-Funke and Maass participated in various campaigns and, in particular, led a campaign against the formation of a black and red Senate after the disastrous repetition choice in February. Although the SPD emerged as the main loser of the election and was only just ahead of the Greens, the Jusos entered for a red-green-red coalition. Many SPD-Links would even have been willing to accept the unpopular Franziska Giffey as head of government to prevent a CDU government. Ultimately, however, 54 percent of the party members decided to switch to the CDU.

Despite the defeat in the vote on the grand coalition, the Jusos had to nibble on it for a long time. However, Tasan-Funke emphasizes that the result was a good sign of your work. The future of the Jusos is still uncertain, but it is unlikely that they will decrease in their desire to fight. The upcoming ordinary party congress of the Berlin SPD in the coming spring is expected to lead to personnel changes, since a decision by the party congress determines that the executive state board must not be a majority of government politicians. This means the end of Franziska Giffey and Raed Saleh's era as a duo at the top. However, the successor is still unclear.

Another possible candidate for a leadership position in the Berlin SPD is Sinem Tasan-Funke. Although she as a Juso boss publicly criticized the decision for the grand coalition, she is expected to have a leading role in the future of the party. However, it remains to be seen how the members of the party will react to their candidacy. There are also assumptions that Cansel Kiziltepe, the left social senator, could stand on Raed Saleh's side. The future of the Berlin SPD is still uncertain, but the ex-jusos have not ruled out to take responsibility in the party in the future.
