Homophober attack in Berlin-Mitte: Police investigated because of attempted dangerous bodily harm
Last Friday evening there was a terrifying incident in Berlin-Mitte, in which two young people became victims of homophobic attack. The police are now investigating the case because of attempted dangerous bodily harm with a homophobic background and the state security responsible for politically motivated crimes.
According to the previous investigations, the incident occurred around 6.50 p.m. in Schillingstrasse. A 15-year-old youth and an 18-year-old young man were insulted and threatened by a group out of home. For fear of further attacks, the two left the area, but were persecuted by the group. The perpetrators threw fireworks on the victims and even attacked the young man with a punch. Fortunately, he could avoid the attack.
To search for protection, the victims went to a nearby residential building while the perpetrators fled.
This incident again shows the threat and violence that LGBTQ+people are exposed to in our society. Homophobia is a serious form of discrimination and every incident like this is unacceptable. It is important that such attacks are taken seriously and consistently pursued to send a clear sign against homophobia.
The police are now asking for support from the population and calls on witnesses to report to the police if they have relevant information in connection with the incident in Schillingstrasse.
It is unfortunate that there are still people in our society who show others because of their sexual orientation. It is important that we all stand together and stand up for acceptance and equality. Everyone should have the right to live as he or she thinks it is right, without fear of discrimination and violence.
The incident in Schillingstrasse is another example that it still takes a lot of work to make our society more inclusive and tolerant. It is up to all of us to stand together against homophobia and any form of discrimination and to stand up for a world in which everyone is respected and accepted, regardless of their sexual orientation.
