The alarm bells ring in the pharmacies of Germany! A recently carried out examination shocked: In about 44 percent of the blood pressure measurements, carried out by committed pharmacy teams, worrying values ​​were discovered. This could have devastating consequences for the health of those affected!

The initiative "We measure with", launched by the ABDA - Federal Association of German Pharmacists' Associations, aims to create more awareness of high blood pressure. From February to June 2024, pharmacists took part in this important campaign in the internship (phips) and teams of training pharmacies. They wanted to help as many people as possible within only 10 hours and check their blood pressure.

The evaluation has delivered alarming results: a total of 889 patients were measured. And the numbers are sobering - almost every second value tested was not in the green! Gabriele Regina Overwiening, President of the ABDA, speaks of a serious danger: "Too high blood pressure increases the risk of suffering a stroke or a heart attack." A wake -up call for everyone who believes that health is a matter of course!

A simple traffic light scheme for evaluating the measured values ​​was used. But what does that mean specifically for those affected? The pharmacists were alerted and advised the patient to visit their family doctor within the next four weeks. An overdue step that may save lives!

Overwiening emphasizes: "This encourages us to continue to offer our pharmaceutical service and to commit us to combat cardiovascular diseases even more intensively."
