Great lack of staff in Berlin beer gardens despite increased prices
The beer garden season in Berlin is going well despite increased prices, but there is still a big lack of staff. Thomas Lengfelder, the managing director of the Hotel and Restaurant Association Dehoga Berlin, reports on difficulties to find enough employees. Even big beer gardens on the popular destination Wannsee have to plan days of rest as they don't have enough staff.
Lengfelder currently sees no solution for this personnel problem. Many people no longer feel like working in the service sector. He does not bring the argument of the difficult working hours as an excuse, since this is the case in many professions and would be inevitable. In his opinion, a different attitude of people is needed. Anyone who wants to work today would have a good chance, especially in the catering industry.
The increased prices do not seem to prevent people from visiting the beer gardens. Lengfelder speaks of "capital -friendly prices". In the larger Berlin beer gardens, half a liter of beer usually costs between 4.50 and five euros.
However,Lengfelder has determined that the catering trade is more often dispensed with due to inflation on starters or desserts. However, the companies he spoke to have not reported that the people overall spend less or stop going into the beer gardens.
Overall, the staff shortage in the catering industry remains in Berlin, while people continue to visit the beer gardens despite increased prices.
