meaning of health care in partnerships: AOK survey offers exciting insights
A new survey, carried out by the Forsa Institute on behalf of the AOK federal association, impressively illuminates what role health and precaution play in romantic relationships. The results show that many people actively take care of the health of their partners and often wish for support.
The survey was carried out among around 1,000 persons surveyed in partnerships and showed that 82 percent of the participants have no shyness to address their partners on health issues. A remarkable aspect is that 78 percent of the respondents feel responsible for the health of their partner. However, despite this high consciousness, there is still considerable improvement potential in communication about health issues, as the managing director Steve Plesker notes.
However, debates about health issues in relationships are not always easy. According to the survey, 36 percent of those surveyed state that they want more exchange about health. One reason could be that 38 percent have the feeling that their partners would not take care of their own health.
An important concern that is discussed in the survey is skin cancer. With around 230,000 new cases, this disease is one of the most common types of cancer in Germany annually. Over half of the respondents (53 percent) thought of possible skin problems when looking at the liver spots of their partners. This shows how important the topic of skin health is for many and how very partner can contribute emotionally and practically to health care. Surprisingly, 89 percent of those surveyed want their partners to point out striking liver spots, while so far only 42 percent have actually done so.
In view of these results, the AOK wants to raise more awareness of skin cancer screening. For this purpose, a card game called "Skintimacy" in cooperation with the online sex shop Amorelie was developed. This combines the health check for skin changes with a playful and sensual approach in order to motivate couples to support mutual support. This innovative concept could not only promote communication, but also help to anchor skin cancer. For those interested, the card game is available in a digital version on the website
