New high school in Kreuzberg approved: offers direct path to the Abitur!
New lionetry in Kreuzberg enables students to travel directly to the Abitur
A groundbreaking decision was made in Kreuzberg, which changes the district's educational landscape sustainably.
The creation of a new high school in the association is involved in the Albrecht von Graefe School and the Hector-Peterson School in Kreuzberg. This pioneering decision means that all six secondary and community schools in Kreuzberg now offer the direct path to the Abitur. This not only strengthens school development, but also leads to an increase in the number of registrations and a greater acceptance of schools in the families.
Andy Hehmke, district councilor for school, sports and facility management, emphasizes the importance of this measure for the educational landscape in Kreuzberg. In the past, the Abitur was only possible at a community school in Kreuzberg, now all schools in the region have this important option in the portfolio. For many families, this new opportunity could be an interesting alternative to the traditional high school.
So far, there has been a challenging situation for students from the Albrecht von Graefe School, who had to switch to the Robert Koch-Gymnasium after graduation 11 in the qualification phase (Q phase) in order to complete the Abitur. Due to capacity problems and other hurdles, however, it became increasingly difficult to maintain this cooperation. In order to find a solution, the district, school supervision and the schools involved have decided to set up a joint level.
The approval for the new bond level means that the Hector-Peterson school will open a class in grade 11 in the next school year. At the same time, the last transition of the students of the Albrecht von Graefe School to the Robert Koch-Gymnasium this summer takes place. From the summer of 2025, all students in grade 11 of both schools will switch to the q phase of the bond level and continue their school career.
The location for the new bond level will be the Fraenkelufer 18, where other educational offers have already been housed. However, construction measures are still required before the opening, in particular to expand the structural fire protection.
This groundbreaking decision creates new educational opportunities for students in Kreuzberg and promotes diversity in the education system. Parents and students benefit from this expanded option and now have the opportunity to design their educational path individually.
