Medium strips of Friedensstraße in Berlin are upgraded: biodiversity promoted and quality of life improved.

according to a report by www.berlin.de Reviewing measures of the median of Friedensstraße between Landsberger Allee and Pufendorfstrasse. The medium strip was already secured by the installation of a railing. In a first step, the soil condensed by the illegal park is loosened, leveled and enriched with compost. After that, most of the area is developed into a pollinator -friendly flower meadow to promote biodiversity. In addition, some perennial beds are also created in the area of road crossings.

A special vitality treatment is intended for the trees, since these were severely damaged by the soil compression. With the help of lances, compressed air is inserted into the ground in the area of the linden trees and the soil compression is reduced. In addition, all trees receive basic fertilization. The district office asks all residents not to enter the area and thus support the success of the upgrading.

The upgrading of the median strip in Friedenstrasse has various positive effects on the local community. On the one hand, the area creates more space for decentralized rainwater management, which is particularly important in the densely populated inner city area to contribute to the sponge city. In addition, the quality of life for residents is improved and biodiversity is promoted.

These measures are part of the commitment of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district for environmental and nature conservation as well as the promotion of sustainable urban development. The upgrading of the medium strip is an example of how local authorities can actively contribute to improving urban infrastructure and the environment.

Annika Gerold, district councilor for traffic, green spaces, order and environment, thanks the colleague from the environmental and nature conservation office for their work on this project.
