The Elsenbrücke in Berlin is again the focus of traffic measures. The Elsenbrücke, which was opened in 1968 and has a length of 195 meters, connects the districts of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Treptow-Köpenick and represents an important traffic artery. Drivers are asked to use the diversion via the Oberbaumbrücke, while a makeshift bridge remains open to cyclists, pedestrians and public trains.

The bridge was last examined in summer 2018 for a 28 -meter -long crack in the concrete, which led to a short -term block. Such damage is indicative for the progressive wear and tear of the construction, which has now been working towards a planned demolition from 2028. The construction of the bridge should cost around 98 million euros.

In addition to the upcoming blocking, there are also maintenance work that has been necessary several times in recent years. According to the Senate management for mobility, traffic, climate protection and environment must be checked and followed up by around 20,000 screw connections. This maintenance work is planned for the period from October 19, 2024 to October 20, 2024 and also include a full closure for car traffic.

The need for regular maintenance work and the expensive new construction of a bridge are problems that will continue to burden the city's transport infrastructure.
