Friedenau cheers: New jelbi stations for sustainable mobility!
Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz, 12159 Berlin, Deutschland - On June 12, 2025, another step in Berlin's mobility strategy was announced. The cooperation between Jelbi and the district offices Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Steglitz-Zehlendorf contributes to the development of the Friedenau sub-network, which is part of the Steglitz jelbi network. This initiative includes the establishment of four jelbi locations in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, which serve to offer modern mobility solutions for citizens. One of the new locations is located at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz/Schmiljanstrasse underground station, where Sharing vehicles have been bundled and parked since the beginning of May.
The booking of the vehicles is conveniently via the jelbi app. These developments were made by the ceremonial opening, the district councilor Dr. Saskia Ellenbeck and Michael Bartnik, deputy department head Jelbi of the BVG, were led. The district office has invited everyone to take part in this important event and get to know the new mobility offers. The new location represents the 27th Jelbi location in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, which underlines the expansion of the innovative mobility concept in the city, as [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/ba-tempelhof-schoeneberg/aktuelles/Pressemageilungen/2025/Pressemage. 1569034.php)
The role of Jelbi in the Berlin mobility strategy
jelbi is more than just a transport offer - it is part of a comprehensive plan for mobility design in Berlin. The ward locations bundle various sharing options such as cars, bicycles and scooters, and enable users to rent, return or charge vehicles. Taxis can also be called via the jelbi app. The aim is to offer fast and easy access to transport to make the everyday life of the Berliners easier and to promote the switch to environmentally friendly modes of transport, as jelbi.de.
As part of the urban development plan for mobility and traffic (Step Move), it was decided in 2021 to increase the share of the environmental association to 82% by currently 74% by 2030. This includes strengthening buses, lanes, bicycles and pedestrian traffic. The plan aims to slow down the trend towards more car traffic and to promote environmentally friendly mobility. The new jelbi locations fit seamlessly into this strategy and contribute to reducing motorized private transport, which represents a further step towards a city-friendly and climate-friendly mobility, as [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/sen/uvk/mobilitaet-undverkehr/verfortpolitik/stadtentwicktivli--und- und-verkehr/).
The planning also provides for an expansion of the jelbi stations from the central urban areas to the outdoor districts, whereby even more S+subway stations and hot spots are to be equipped with these modern mobility solutions. These progress are part of a comprehensive approach to increase the quality of life in Berlin and to make the transport network future -proof.
