Frankfurt: The heart of the densely populated metropolis

Frankfurt am Main, one of the most pulsating cities in Germany, is considered one of the top cities with a high population density. With 3,113 inhabitants per square kilometer, Frankfurt takes third place in this category, according to the official information from 2022. This statistics are based on data from both the city and the statistical offices of the federal and state governments.

The attraction of Frankfurt attracts people from all corners. Between 2018 and 2022, the city recorded population growth of almost three percent, mainly due to immigration. Interestingly, Frankfurt and Munich were the only metropolises in Germany that recorded more births than deaths.

An interesting fact is the average living space per inhabitant in Frankfurt in 2022. With an average of 37.5 square meters per person, Frankfurt has the smallest living space among all German metropolises. In comparison, Hanover was given as a city with the largest living space with 42.0 square meters per inhabitant.

Frankfurt, as a significant metropolis in Hesse, has around 770,000 inhabitants in 2023, taking fifth place among the largest cities in Germany. Despite this impressive number, Berlin, the capital, is at the top with over 3.7 million inhabitants. In addition to Frankfurt and Munich, these cities are known for their rapid population growth, whereby Frankfurt is one of the fastest growing metropolises.
