Berlin, October 8, 2024 - On the occasion of the world day of bread on October 16, the German bread culture is in the spotlight! Over 3,000 bread specialties that are lovingly prepared by guild bakers make Germany a real bread nation. Ten years ago, this tradition was actually included in the nationwide list of the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO - a reason to celebrate!

The bakers draw attention to the fact that this cultural asset not only delights the palate, but also plays an important role as a significant branch in Germany. Bernd Kütscher , the managing director of the German Brotinstitut, emphasizes: "Bread connects!" Whether at breakfast, dinner or as a snack for on the go, it is an essential part of nutrition - and that worldwide!

The variety of bread is overwhelming! From sourdough breads to innovative creations - in Germany bread art blooms like nowhere. In the baking rooms, you traditionally rely on long dough in the baking rooms in order to maintain digestible and tasteful breads. Almost 10,000 trainees are currently at school and learn the art of bread baking - a creative activity that opens up a promising professional future. "Baking is cool!", Ermer advises the new trainee. The Central Association of the German Bakery Handel , founded in 1948, is committed to representing the interests of the over 9,242 companies at all political levels. With an annual turnover of 17.55 billion euros, the bakery trade is not only an important part of the German economy, but also a living piece of culture - and all of this in the sign of bread!
