Ceremonial opening: New MEB for Spandaus students with special needs
Seecktstraße 2, 13587 Berlin, Deutschland - On June 11, 2025, the ceremonial opening of the modular supplementary construction of the school on the garden field at Seecktstraße 2 in Spandau took place. After a construction period of around a year, the new building was officially handed over to the Spandau district. The modular supplementary construction (MEB) is the second type building of this kind in the district and especially for pupils with the focus of "intellectual development". Education Senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch emphasized the importance of Berlin's school building offensive during the opening ceremony, which serves as a comprehensive investment program for all school types and creates modern learning environments.
The new building optimizes the premises of the funding centers and is characterized by barrier -free, spacious areas on three floors. Christian Gaebler, Senator for Urban Development, emphasized the high -quality and sustainable construction of the MEB. The equipment comprises twelve stem group rooms, an art space, eight division rooms, two therapy rooms, two nursing rooms and a team room. The cafeteria area with around 60 seats and an output kitchen is particularly remarkable.
sustainability in focus
The supplementary construction has remarkable sustainability features. This includes an extensive green retention roof and preparation for a photovoltaic system. The heat supply is carried out by district heating, which further reduces the ecological footprint of the furnishings. The facade concept was developed in close coordination with the lower monument protection authority to ensure harmonious integration into the historical ensemble of the "Wavell Barracks".
District Mayor Frank Werbig described the MEB as a big profit for Spandau because he offers specially equipped rooms for the needs of the students. Dr. Carola Brückner, district councilor, described the new building as a milestone in the expansion of the school on the garden field. The total cost of the construction work amounts to around 9 million euros, and the establishment was realized by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living in Official Assistance for the District. The general contractor Goldbeck GmbH was responsible for the execution of the construction work.
The modular supplementary construction follows the first modular supplementary construction, which was opened at the school on the outskirts in 2022. The modular construction enables faster implementation of such educational projects that are tailored to the special needs of the students. Further information on the Berlin school building offensive and the associated projects can be found on the website of the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living.
Overall, this building shows a clear direction in Berlin education policy - the creation of innovative and needs -based learning rooms that meet pupils with special needs.
