stumbling block for the Jewish family Becker in Kladow
On July 12, 2024, a significant event will take place in Kladow, which is reminiscent of the tragic history of the Jewish family Becker. The couple Thea and Wilhelm Becker, together with their daughter Marian, decided in 1937 due to the growing anti -Semitism and the threat of the National Socialist regime to flee the USA.
Wilhelm Becker, a respected orthopedist in Berlin, ran a successful practice and settled with his family to Otto-von-Wollank-Straße 30 in Groß Glienicke, today's Spandau. Despite their professional and social ties, the family was forced to leave their home and escape terror in Germany.
The stumbling block laying, organized by the Spandau youth history workshop, is carried out by students from OSZ Knobelsdorff in memory of the family. All citizens are cordially invited to take part in this moving event and to show their solidarity with the victims of National Socialism.
The event is accompanied by greetings from leading personalities of the city, including district mayor Franz Luby and district councilor Tanja Franzke. Pupils of the Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium and the Wald-Gymnasium present their research results on the life of the Becker family, while Jeanne Wecker will accompany the ceremony.
It is of great importance to appreciate such events and become aware of the story in order to preserve the memory of the victims and to set a sign against any form of discrimination and racism. The Spandau youth history workshop invites everyone to take part in this moving stumbling block and stand together for tolerance and respect.event details:
