Evangelical academies: new ways for discourse and education in Thuringia
A call for discussion!
The Evangelical Academies in Germany have now published an important position paper that sets the course for the future of political education! Under the title "Discourse culture and political education. The Evangelical Academies in a time of transformation", the 16 academies bundle their findings from years of discussions.
"We are in demand in times of social upheavals," emphasizes Udo Hahn, the chairman of the umbrella association EAD. "The academies are the heart of church responsibility and are on the front when it comes to making democracy tangible!"
new challenges
The paper deals with the challenges of our time. In three clearly structured chapters, the link between the Evangelical Church and the social changes are discussed. It's not just about education, but about promoting a "culture of hope" - a powerful message to everyone who believes in a positive future!
The academies focus on the youth . "We activate the 'utopiemuskel'!" Says Hanna Lorenzen, Secretary General of the EAD. "We challenge young people to think about the >> possible << what is not yet!" A future -oriented approach that is also important in times of political extremisms.
dr. Sebastian Kranich, deputy chairman of the EAD, adds: "We continue to fight the right -wing extremists in our society. Our educational offers are the answer to the threats that are particularly noticeable in the east of Germany." Here the academies document that a strong network is not only important, but essential!
successful projects in focus
The new position paper not only shows the theory, but also practice! With around 1,700 events a year, the Evangelical Academies achieve over 50,000 people and thus demonstrate their social influence. "We are a civil society player that you cannot do without!" Explains Dr. Friederike Krippner, director of EAD.
The target groups of the academies are colorful and diverse! Around 20 percent of the participants are under 27 - a sign that the academies take the interests and needs of youth seriously. Success also shows in the award of the Evangelical Academy of Saxony-Anhalt with the "Prize Political Education" for the project "Beeklima-Build with! Climate crisis-what to do?".
The Evangelical Academies are more than just educational institutions; They are a lively part of our democracy and encourage all age groups to be active on important topics. A clear call to everyone to join the discussion and actively shape the future!
