European election 2019: Postal voting enables flexible voting despite music festivals

On June 9th, the European elections will take place in Germany, which decides which 96 MPs may move into the European Parliament. If you cannot or do not want to go to the polling station that day, you can submit your voice in advance by postal voting - very uncomplicated. The postal voting is also supported by the two largest German music festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, where around 160,000 people celebrate on the election Sunday.

The proportion of letter voters has been increasing for years. In the last European election in Germany, more than 37.8 million voters made their vote in Germany, almost a third of them by letter (28.4 percent) and thus more than with the previous European election (25.3 percent).

The postal voting for the European elections this year is also supported by the two largest German music festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, which will take place from June 7th to 9th. So that the approximately 160,000 visitors to the concerts do not forget their right to vote, the festivals and well -known bands such as the Guano Apes have previously called on social media and online for postal voting.

The postal voting documents can be requested in different ways. Anyone who has already received an election notification will find a form on the back that can be filled and sent back. If you do not yet have an election notification, you can still apply for the postal voting documents: this is possible in writing (also by email or fax) or orally at the community of the main place of residence.

eligible voters with disabilities can be helped by another person to apply. Upon request, the documents can even be sent to another address, for example to the holiday destination.

In postal voting, the completed documents must be sent back as quickly as possible. The ballot is inserted into a blue envelope, which is then put together with the "insurance on oath instead of postal voting" in the red election letter envelope. Within Germany, the envelope can be put into the mail franked, only abroad is due.

There is also the possibility to personally pick up the postal voting documents from the responsible body of the municipal authority and to hand it over on site.

The campaign to support the postal voting for the European elections is carried out online by the Festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park as well as well -known bands such as the Guano Apes. The aim is to encourage as many people as possible to make use of their right to vote, even if they cannot go to the polling station on election day.

The information on postal voting and the European elections are available online. If you have any questions or further information, the specified contact persons of the European Parliament in Germany can be contacted.
