Europe day 2022: Events in Berlin and Germany | European elections and peace in the EU

On the occasion of tomorrow's Europe Day on May 9, the representation of the European Commission in Germany in Berlin, the two regional representatives in Bonn and Munich and the 50 Europe Directs in Germany invite you to numerous events together with many partners. Europe's day is reminiscent of the historical declaration of Schuman on May 9, 1950, which is considered the cornerstone of today's European Union. This year Europe's day is dedicated to the European elections on June 9th.

Barbara Gessler, the representative of the European Commission in Germany, emphasized the importance of a strong and some European Union in the current period of change. It underlined the importance of dialogue with the citizens, especially with regard to the question of how the EU can secure peace and prosperity for everyone. Gessler thanked the Europe Directs and all partners for their commitment and wished a happy and peaceful Europe day.

The celebrations for Europe Day were already initiated on April 27 at the three -country point at Zittau. Over 8000 visitors came together here. Together with the European Parliament and partners from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, a sign was set for Europe.

Events also took place in Munich as part of the Europa-May. The regional representative in Munich invited to discussions about Europe last Sunday, which took place in the "Europarad" - the Munich Ferris wheel "Umadum".

On Sunday, May 11th, Bonn's Europe Day takes place in Bonn. The federal city celebrates with a colorful family festival, in which the regional representative of the European Commission will also be represented with a large European tent.

The Europe day is reminiscent of the historical Schuman declaration of 1950, in which French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman presented his vision of a new kind of political cooperation in Europe. Schuman's proposal of a supranational European institution for the management and merging of coal and steel production is considered the foundation of today's European Union.
