The European Commission starts the "Feeding Hope" campaign to promote the humanitarian aid of the EU

The European Commission recently launched the "Feeding Hope" campaign to raise awareness of the decisive role of the European Union in the financing of humanitarian aid measures. This Initiative aims to arouse a feeling of pride and enthusiasm among EU citizens, especially among people of the older generation Z and Millennials (20 to 40 year olds).

Nutrition security is one of the most urgent global challenges of our time. According to the Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC), a total of 281.6 million people in 59 countries were affected by acute nutritional uncertainty in 2023 - an alarming number that continues to increase. In this context, the proactive commitment of the European Union plays a fundamental role in the fight against this crisis. Since 2010, the EU's humanitarian food aid has achieved millions of people who have not enough food in an appropriate amount, quality and the necessary nutrients.

In 2023 alone, the EU provided EUR 2.4 billion for humanitarian aid measures and thus strengthened its rank as a Geberland. An important part of this help is food aid.

The "Feeding Hope" campaign aims to honor these efforts and to create a stronger connection between the EU citizens and the meaningful work that is done in its name. As part of the campaign, stories of people and communities are told that have benefited directly from the humanitarian aid of the EU in Bangladesh, in Chad and Yemen. In this way, the understanding of the importance of this support should be improved.

The campaign is also supported by working with renowned activists as well as cooks, including Maya Leinenbach. In addition, partnerships with film festivals such as DOK Leipzig and the Hamburg Film Festival are received in order to further increase the range and effectiveness of the campaign.

"With the 'Feeding Hope' campaign, we would like to focus on the stories of all those who benefit from our food aid and show the life-saving commitment of the EU in humanitarian emergency situations around the world," explains Zacharias Giakoumis, head of communication of the EU directorate for humanitarian aid.
