opening of the new BMX trail in Biesdorf
Next Saturday (July 15) the time has finally come: The BMX Dirt Trail in Biesdorf will open. The two committed 18-year-old Niklas Harder and Nils Melzer have worked for this day for a long time. They have been committed to a BMX course in their neighborhood for a year and a half.
The two BMX drivers met three years ago on an unofficial BMX course in Wuhletal. This course was more of a fallow land on which the use for sport was tolerated. Despite the problems on site, Niklas and Nils took care of repairs themselves and kept the course in good shape.
gradually the problems were greater. Many ramps were repeatedly destroyed and children also played on the premises. When Nils asked a child one day not to stay directly on the ramps, he was insulted and even attacked by the father. For the two the desire to drive had passed and they decided to get involved in their own BMX trail.
Together with a neighborhood initiative, Niklas and Nils plan a BMX course on the Lötschberg triangle. Unfortunately, a species protection report destroyed all construction projects on this site. But in early 2023, the two were proposed a new area directly on the B1. They were initially not enthusiastic about the property, as it was significantly smaller and also completely filled. But they saw the chance to create a place for young people.
So the two started cleaning up and got support from the neighborhood. The Patrick Ott company provided them with an excavator and the Biesdorf heating fitter Christian Röhl put a water pipe for them. But then the next hurdle came: The lower monument protection authority imposed a construction freeze because a neighboring house is listed.
The discussion of the official requirements frustrated the two BMX drivers very much in the meantime. After all, they just wanted to create one place for young people. After clarifying discussions with the responsible authorities and politicians, they finally received a new building permit for the BMX trail, just a week before the planned opening.
Although the work on the course is not yet complete, half of the area can already be accessed. Niklas and Nils will continue to test the trail and, if necessary, make changes. Her great wish is that many people become a member of their association "Smiley Trails" who rented the property and bears running costs.
On Saturday, the two hope for many enthusiastic guests at the opening of the BMX trail. The BMX scene in the district has grown in recent years and so far there has been no trail in Biesdorf. Niklas and Nils want the trail to become a meeting point for young people and they are looking forward to many new members in their club.
