Title: Commitment to climate protection: Berlin's trees would like to thank volunteers
subtitle: Sebastian Herges-an activist in the command of Berlin's young trees and climate protection in public space
In Berlin, awareness of climate protection and the importance of tree irrigation in public space is growing. The volunteer Sebastian Herges from the south-Neukölln horseshoe settlement made this concern about his personal mission. On Facebook he founded a group called "Berliner trees water" to win fellow campaigners for local climate protection. In addition, it can also be found on platforms such as vostel.de, govoluntener.de and giessdenkiez.de under "Berliner trees Waserer" in the slack.
Hermges calls to support the private irrigation of Berlin's young trees. At the same time, he asks everyone with a heart for this topic: "Do you also have a heart for Berlin's young trees and their private irrigation?" In doing so, he poses the question of how people would react if their own children or close people would die due to delays in rescue operations from adhesive blocks. For him this is a drastic example of the consequences of climate change.
The next tree Gieß campaign, which Sebastian Herges is planning in the southern Neukölln horseshoe settlement, is particularly remarkable. On Saturday, August 5, 2023, he will water the young trees in the public park in the small acacia forest part with volunteers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A total of around 20 trees are to be maintained. It is an opportunity for everyone interested to actively contribute to climate protection in their neighborhood.
Sebastian Herges not only gets involved on site, but is also officially recognized for his commitment. Martin Hikel, district mayor of Neukölln (SPD), has already awarded him twice for local climate protection in public space. In addition, Hertes had a prize money profit of 1500 euros in the innovation competition of the volunteer capital. Also to be emphasized is his current nomination as an ambassador for local climate protection in the neighborhood in public space by the Federal Network for Civic Engagement (BBE).
The climate protection activist also uses sporting events to draw attention to the importance of tree irrigation. Sebastian Herges takes part in the Half Marathon in Berlin every year and proudly carries his bright green watering can from Berlin's trees. His press spokesman Jochen Schmitz supports him in this matter. For the coming year, Herges has already registered for the half marathon and will again show the flag for climate protection.
