The honey harvest in Berlin 2023: beekeepers have to accept significant losses compared to the previous year.
In contrast, the beekeepers in Berlin in 2023 only reached a honey harvest of 30.4 kilograms per bee colony, which means a decrease of 5.1 kilos compared to 2022.
In Germany overall, the beekeepers were able to harvest an average of 36.7 kilos of honey per bee colony, which represents an increase of 2.3 kilos compared to the previous year.
According to specialist center manager Christoph Otten, it was a very good bee year. The positive weather enabled the bees to collect a lot of nectar and enable the beekeeping to have a rich harvest. The temporary rainfall had little influence on the low -altitude.
The prices for German honey have increased, and beekeepers and beekeepers are currently selling a 500 gram glass honey for 6.50 euros. That is about five percent more than in the previous year. According to industry experts Otten, the price increases were overdue due to increased business costs, but often still do not cover the entire costs.
In Germany there are an estimated 1.1 million bee colonies and 170,000 beekeepers, most of whom do this as a hobby or in the acquisition. The specialist center bees and beekeeping regularly carry out an industry survey, in which this time around 13,000 reports from beekeepers and beekeepers took part.
